James Papson Obituary

The Lord asked for a faithful servant and Jim raised his hand and God has prepared him a place in his house.
James “Nearly Normal” Papson, age 62, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, February 13, 2018 as a result of an accident. He was born April 14, 1955 in Erie, PA to the late Cyril and Luella (Miller) Papson.
Jim attended St. John’s Parochial School and later attended school in Fairview, graduating from Fairview High School in 1973. He married the love of his life, Julie (Crosby) Papson on April 8, 1978. They resided in the Fairview/Girard area where they raised their two children.
Jim worked at a family farm as a young man and later trained to be a machinist. He was most recently employed as a machinist at Eriez Magnetics and was a former member of UAW 832. Jim and his family took over his family’s concession trailer traveling to the Albion Fair, Dan Rice Days and countless other venues for several years.  He loved the fast pace of the business, trying new dishes, and meeting the people.  He loved camping with his wife and the Serro Scotty Camper Enthusiasts. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, kayaking and supporting local sports teams especially Fairview High School football. Jim was a Sunday armchair quarterback host for more than twenty years, inviting his friends weekly to share in food, football and friendly competition. He loved crosswords, (always keeping one in his shirt pocket). He was a friend of Bill W.  He was known for his willingness to help others, making them feel welcome and showing up when there was a need, especially when it involved helping people move; he always gave so much of himself to those in need. Jim helped with several benefits for those who had serious health conditions who would otherwise not be able to seek the medical attention they needed. He was boisterous during these events and committed to meeting the goals of the events.  His smile and wit were quick and contagious.
Along with his wife, he is survived by one son, Jon (Kristen) Papson of Erie and daughter, Molly Papson of Fairview.  He treasured being Grand-dad to Animor and Evelyn Papson. He is also survived by one sister, Marleen (Michael) Cardarelli and brother, John (Cheryl) Papson as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and community of friends.
