Josephine "Josie" Hanisek Smialek, 86 of Girard, died Wednesday December 23, 2009 at St. Vincent Health Center following a brief illness.
 She was born in Girard a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Tutka Hanisek Sr.
  Josie was a wonderful person who was absolutely dedicated to her family and her church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She had been a very active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard her entire life. She assisted at St. John's Social Hall, the funeral luncheon comittee and St. John's Catholic School. She was well known throughout the community for her cooking and also enjoyed playing cards, bingo and gardening and volunteered at Pleasant Ridge Manor for many years.
 In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Theodore J. Smialek in 2002, also by two sisters, Anna Chorney and Patricia Sweeney; two brothers, Andrew Hanisek Jr. and John Hanisek also a grandaughter, Melissa Ward.
 She will be sadly missed by her family which includes, five daughters, Elaine M. Regelman and her husband Gary of Wampum, PA, Carol A. Burger and her husband Neil of Girard, Karen L. Nerger and her husband Lawrence of Aurora,CO., Cathy E.Neveu and her husband Robert of St. Cloud,FL., Mary Beth Smialek and her husband John Weis of Fleetwood, PA; a son, Donald J. Smialek of Aurora,CO; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters Mary Grega of Girard, Margaret Smialek of Fairview; two sisters in law, Norma Hanisek of Girard and Rosanne Hanisek of Erie also many nieces and nephews.
 Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. A Prayer service will be held there on Monday at 9:30Am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 101 Olin Ave., Girard.
 Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
