Edward Kubiak, 86 of Lake City, died Wednesday April 14, 2010 at Hamot Medical Center following a brief illness.
Edward was born June 15, 1923 in Erie, a son of the late Michael and Rose Sawicki Kubiak.
He graduated from Erie technical School in 1943. As America was at war, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and eventually deployed to the European Theater of Operations with the 347th Ordinance Depot. Edward was a Normandy Veteran who also participated in the Battles of Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe, receiving the Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars in addition to other awards.
Upon his discharge from the Army he returned to the Erie area. He was a Journeyman Electrician for 60 years, working most recently for the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Union.
Edward was a member of IBEW Local #56 and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard Kubiak and Joseph Kubiak; sisters in law, Sally and Shirley Kubiak; a brother in law, Ted Baldwin and a nephew Sam Kubiak.
He is survived by his sister, Dolores Baldwin of Erie; four brothers, Chester Kubiak of Erie, Leonard Kubiak and his wife Dolores of Pittsburgh, Gerald Kubiak and his wife Christine of Lake City; Richard Kubiak and his wife Susan of Fairview; a sister in law, Jean Kubiak of Lake Jackson, TX., 14 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Friday from 2PM to 4 PM and 7PM to 9PM at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. A Prayer Service will be held there on Saturday at 9:30AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 101 Olin Ave., Girard.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with full military honors.
