Charles N. "Charlie" Miller, 76 of Girard, passed away on Monday December 10, 2018 at West Lake Woods, where he had recently resided.
He was born on February 19, 1942 in Slippery Rock Township, Pa., a son of the late Clayton and Anna (Kiester) Miller.
Charlie graduated from Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School in 1960. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Greenland and Germany. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he began working for Lincoln Electric in Cleveland from 1965 to 1969. Later in 1970 he began working as a plumber with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #47, and retiring in 2004.
He was a member of the Lake City Presbyterian Church; the Girard American Legion Post #494; A member of the Girard School District Board of Directors. He enjoyed golfing in various golf groups in the local area, as well as playing and spending winters in Florida since his retirement. He was well known in the area as announcer for the Girard Yellow Jackets home football games and Raceway 7. It has been said that, Charlie had a voice that was naturally loud and "He loved to talk."
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers; Dale Miller, Thomas Miller and Ralph Miller.
Charlie will be greatly missed by his family, which include his wife, Jeanne (Chiro) Miller, whom he married on December 23, 1967 in Girard; his daughter, Annette Miller (Nicholas Thomas) of Bridgeville, PA.; his son, Gerald "Jerry" Miller of Monaca, PA; two sisters, Eleanor Kennedy (James) of Tennessee; a brother, Richard Miller (Sharon) of East Springfield; and grandchildren, Amber DeSantis (Justin) of Erie, Kevin Miller of Freedom, PA and Jaime Miller (Michael Chino Aulicino) of Wexford, PA; and three great-grandchild, Carter, Norah and Asher DeSantis also several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jim Rimmer officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in the Girard Cemetery.
