Mary M. (Postas) Surovick, age 102 of Girard, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at her family home.
She was born in Carteret, N.J., a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Muldavom) Postas.
Mary moved to Erie as a young girl with her family. She graduated from Villa Maria High School and later lived in Albion following her marriage to John Surovick. She moved to Girard with her family and had resided there the remainder of her life. She worked at Marx Toy’s in Girard and White-Consolidated (Now PHB Diecast) where she was a machinist and member of the I.A.M. Union.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard, where she was a member of the former Altar Rosary Society and the former St. John’s School PTA. Her priority throughout her life had been to take care of her husband and family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Surovick, whom she married in 1940 in Cranesville; also all of her brothers and sisters, she being the sole remaining member of her own generation, having survived them by decades of a life well lived with humility and abundant faith.
Mary will be greatly missed by her family which includes her daughters, Mary Ann Gleason of Mt. Lebanon, Madge Chesko of Alexandria, VA. And Theresa Kendig (Robert) of Girard; her grandchildren, Debbie Caouette (Paul) of Stafford, VA., Jennifer Vargo (Andy) of Girard, Cathi Chesko of Alexandria, VA; great grandchildren, Cooper and Parker Caouette and Lucas Vargo also many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours observed.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 101 Olin Ave., Girard on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. William Miller officiating.
Mary’s family would like to express their gratitude to Erie Co. VNA Hospice, for their exceptional care and compassion during their mothers; recent illness.
Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Girard.
