Betty Rand Obituary

Betty Lou (Exley) Rand, 68, of Union City died on Monday, September 20, 2021 at UPMC Hamot.

Betty was born on May 9, 1953, a daughter to the late William and Jean (Foster) Exley. Betty graduated from Fairview High School in 1972. Following high school, she worked in various positions before finding what she loved to be, a homemaker and mom.

When her children were young Betty was very involved in Harmony Baptist Church. There she was involved in Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, and was an incredible behind the scenes organizer of many church events. Betty had a heart for serving and caring for others. Showing it through the pattern of her days she never tired of giving a helping hand.

Betty loved holidays and bringing the family together. Each year Christmas was a great celebration from cookies for all, to decorations that filled the home with warmth. Betty was a fantastic baker often found re-watching a favorite movie series while stirring away. Every child had a carefully themed birthday cake with their favorite characters or yearly fascination. She also sewed, knitted and crocheted making blankets and teddy bears for all the family. Betty had to repair many of the grandchildren's well loved blankets, re-sewing the tatters with patience and care.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Bean.

She will be greatly missed by her family which includes her husband, Mark Rand whom she married on June 4, 1977; four sons, Eric Rand (Sarah), Joseph Rand (Heather), Marcus Rand and William "Bill" Rand (Lindsay); a daughter, Sarah Dennis (Mark Hawley); five sisters, Linda Gisczinski (Robert), Susan "Sue" Michael (Gerald), Patricia "Patty" Smith (Gene), Carla Wilson (Brian) and Edith Exley; twelve grandchildren, Emily and Zachary Rand, Caleb, Jacob, Emery and Case Rand, Aubrey, Sydney and Kali Lou Rand, Torun, Tavin and Tenly Dennis; and many nieces and nephews.
