Charles E. “Chuck” McConnell, age 63 of Girard, died Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born January 2, 1958, in Oil City, PA, son of the late Charles E. and Mildred A.” Deanie” (Wyman) McConnell.
Chuck graduated from Girard in 1976. He loved sports and played football, basketball, and baseball throughout high school.
After graduation, Chuck worked various jobs including landscaping, the railroad, and then concrete construction. In 1996, Maher McConnell Concrete was established by Chuck, his brother Dave and their partner Pat. It has been a well-known business in Girard for the past twenty-five years. Chuck was also elected a Supervisor of Girard Township and was a member of the Girard American Legion Post#494 S.O.L.
Chuck was a true people person and loved spending time with his family and friends. He cherished the time he was able to spend with his grandson Bryson. He also loved hunting, fishing, skiing, spending time at hunting camp and the annual McDonald’s camp out.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, David E. McConnell in 1998 and a nephew, John M. Pegg in 1996.
Chuck will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his wife of 40 years, Sue (Chesko) McConnell, whom he married June 13, 1981, in Girard; two sons, Charlie R. McConnell and Dan R. McConnell; a grandson, Bryson McConnell; a sister, Sheree L. McConnell (Jeff Schneider); sisters-in-law, Mary Kay Johnson (Mark), Bonnie McConnell; brothers in law, Mark Chesko, Chris Chesko (Cindy), Greg Chesko (Darlene) and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Monday from 1 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 9 P.M. at the Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend the funeral service on Tuesday at 10 A.M. at the Girard Alliance Church, 229 Rice Ave., Girard with Fr. Charles Miller officiating.
