Edward Kicey Obituary

Edward Kicey, 97, of West Springfield, died Saturday, January 16, 2021 in Strongsville, OH.
 He was born March 21, 1923 in California, PA (Washington County) a son of the late Peter and Julia (Matsko) Kicey.
Ed graduated from the Albion High School and then enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard during WW2. He served as a Signalman and participated in the Philippine Liberation. He was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, and the World War Two Victory Medal. 
Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he returned home and began his undergraduate education at Allegheny College and Edinboro State College (Now University) followed by a career in teaching. He retired from the Conneaut Ohio Schools, where he taught honors physics, calculus, and other related courses.
 He was a long-time member of the Girard American Legion Post #494. He enjoyed golf and gardening. Teaching calculus and physics was his passion, meeting past students throughout his life, and nothing meant more to him than hearing he had an impact on someone’s life.  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose E. (Kushan) Kicey, whom he married in 1948, also by a daughter, Diane M. Kicey, a son, Edward A. Kicey, a sister, Antoinette and brothers, Alex, John, Andy, Frank and Sam.
Ed’s family includes two daughters, Susan K. Koscelnik (Timothy) of Canton, GA, and Margaret A. Turchanik (Robert) of North Royalton, OH; a son, Dr. Charles J. Kicey (Paula) of Valdosta, GA; his grandchildren, Caleb Koscelnik, Nick Koscelnik, Rob Turchanik and Sarah Turchanik.
Due to Covid-19 services will be held privately by the family.
Burial with full military honors will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Girard.
