Florence Vere (Myers) Sorenson, 95, formerly of Lake City, died Saturday, April 10, 2021 at TriStar Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, TN.
She was born at home on July 5, 1925 in North Springfield, PA, a daughter of Gaylord E. and Louise M. (Brindle) Myers. She was raised and educated in West County and graduated from West Springfield High School in 1943. After graduation she attended the Jamestown Business College, graduating in 1945. She worked as a medical secretary at Hamot Medical Center and later as a secretary for the Girard School District at Elk Valley Elementary, retiring in 1980.
Florence was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the 20th Century Club of Girard/Lake City. Following the death of her husband, Florence moved to Tennessee to be near her daughter and family. She enjoyed antiques, crafts and rubber stamping.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, a WW2 D-Day Veteran, Warren H. Sorenson, whom she married June 12, 1948 in East Springfield; a son, Richard 'Rick' N. Sorenson, two sisters, Anna L. Kingen and Grace E. Knecht; her brother, Clay Myers and one great-granddaughter.
She will be greatly missed by her family, which include her daughter, Brenda L. Gebhardt and her husband John of Franklin, TN; two sons, Raymond P. Sorenson and his wife Katherine of Tulsa, OK; six grandchildren, Jennifer Sorensen, Michael Sorenson, Nicholas Sorenson, Jamie Ward, Jeffrey Gebhardt and Daniel Gebhardt; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lake City United Methodist Church, 10087 Sampson Ave., Lake City, PA 16423.
Friends attended a graveside service at Springfield Cemetery, with Rev. Dr. Darrell Greenawalt officiating.
An additional Memorial Service for Florence will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at a location to be announced.
