James A. Erickson, 67 of Girard, died Saturday, September 25, 2021, at his home, following a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
He was born in Erie, April 22, 1954, a son of the late, Jesse D. and Lois J. (Patten) Erickson.
Jim graduated from the Rice Avenue Union High School in 1972, where he played basketball and baseball all four years for the Yellowjackets and was the graduating class Salutatorian.
Following high school, he attended Penn State Behrend, where he studied Accounting.
He began employment at True Temper in Lake City, worked for Potter Brothers Construction and became employed by the United States Post Office in 1984. Jim was well known as a Mail Carrier through the downtown streets of Girard and was always reliable! In the year 2010, he retired from the Post office, following his diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia. While a mail carrier, he received a “Hero Award”, for saving an individual’s life of a women on his route.
He was a member of the Girard United Methodist Church and coached boys’ baseball and basketball as well as girls’ softball. He was also a member of the Elk Creek Grange and loved working in the family apple orchard on Drury Road as well as trimming, growing, and picking the harvest.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bradley Erickson at birth.
Jim will be greatly missed by his family, which include his wife, Kathleen J. (Moran) Erickson, whom he married June 10, 1978, in Erie; his daughter, Amy Erickson-Ormsbee (Corey); two sons, Doug and Dan Erickson; a sister, Connie L. Johnson (Michael) and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Friday at 10 A.M. with Rev. Wade and Ali Berkey officiating.
Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
