Joanne Smith, 80, passed away Wednesday February 17, 2021 at UPMC Hamot following a fall at her home.
Joanne was born May 11, 1940 in Meadville, PA, a daughter of the late Paul and Virginia (Smith) Goodman. She graduated from Randolph East Mead High School in 1958. Following high school, she married Hank Smith on September 10, 1960. Joanne was a homemaker taking care of her children until they were grown. During those years she was involved in the community through the Fairview United Methodist Church. Once returning to the work force, she was employed by General Telephone and Electronics company and then Verizon as a phone service dispatcher, Joanne worked twenty-five years with the company until her retirement in 1998.
Joanne was an avid bowler throughout her life attending the National Women's Championships for thirty-three years. She was also an avid NASCAR fan watching her favorites, Bobby and Davey Allison. Joanne enjoyed being active even into her later years. She enjoyed watching and playing softball with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. In her early years she was a member of the Wayland Baptist Church in Meadville, PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother William "Bill" Goodman.
She will be greatly missed by her family which includes her husband of sixty years Harrington "Hank" Smith; a son, Gregory Smith (Cathleen); a daughter, Vicki Graham (Doug); a sister, Marleen "Mi Mi" Hollabaugh (Bill); a sister-in-law, Ruth ann Goodman; eight grandchildren, Justin Smith, Andrew Torok (Auri), Joshua Smith (Genie), Allison Schroeck (Eric), Eric Smith, Kyle Graham, McKenna Graham, Cooper Graham; five great-grandchildren, Owen Smith, Tyler Smith, Adley Smith, Kellan Torok, Delaney Torok; and several neices and nephews
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Saint Jude Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Friends may call on Monday February 22nd from 11:00 a.m. to the time of service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Andrew Verner officiating, at the Edder Funeral Home Inc. 309 Main St. East, Girard.
All CDC guidelines will be observed.
Committal will be at Kiser Hill Cemetery in Meadville on February 23rd at 11:00 a.m.
