Joseph E. Platz

Joseph E. Platz, 86 of Fairview, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Manchester Commons.
 He was born July 29, 1934 in Fairview, a son of the late Elmer H. and Hazel M. (Otteni) Platz.
 Joe graduated from Fairview High School in 1952 and following high school, joined the Pennsylvania National Guard where he served for three years.
 He worked for Schlosser Lumber Co., Consumer Lumber in Erie, Erie Builders, Firch's Bakery and most recently GTE where he worked as a Truck Driver, retiring in 1992. 
 He was a member of the Future Farmers of America in high school and a proud member of the Fairview Tigers Basketball team. He enjoyed working his small beef farm in Gudgeonville and enjoyed bowling in leagues, hunting and fishing and golf in his retirement.
 In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn J. "Pinky" (Hannah) Platz, whom he married November 5, 1955 in Fairview; a daughter in law, Donna M. Platz in 2014.
 He will be greatly missed by his family which includes two sons, Michael J. Platz (Debbie) of Girard and Patrick O. Platz (Karen) of Edinboro; a sister, Joann Sturdivant ; three grandchildren, Justin Platz (Rebecca), Joe Platz and Stephanie Henshaw (Nathan); great grandchildren, Peyton E. Platz, twins, Owen and Oliver Platz, Halle Henshaw and Amelia Platz; and several nieces and nephews.

 Friends may call on Wednesday from 12 noon to the time of service at 2 P.M. at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard with Rev. Andrew Verner officiating.
