Martha "Marty" L. Borland, 94 of Girard, died Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Elmwood Gardens.
She was born January 6, 1926 in North Girard, a daughter of the late Leslie W. and Tressa N. (Dowse) Ward.
Marty graduated from Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School in 1945 and worked in Reese's Department Store. During WWII, she was a clerk at the Red and White Grocery Store in Lake City and also worked for Marx Toys during and following high school.
Following the war and her marriage, she became a full time wife and mother raising and caring for her family and was a devoted grandmother. Marty was known as a kind and generous person and loved by all who knew her.
She has attended The Federated Church, Abundant Life Ministries and Girard United Methodist.
Marty enjoyed dancing especially the polka and the waltz, she enjoyed reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Borland January 6, 2005, whom she married April 25, 1946 in Erie; also by four sisters, Elva Ward, Winifred Doolittle, Mary Rose, and Opal Payne.
She will be greatly missed by her family which includes her five daughters Sandy L. Ferguson (Ed) of Fairview, Shirley A. Senita (Dave) of Union City, Peggy L. Watkins (Pete) of Wattsburg, Kathy J. Colonna (Mike) of Millcreek and Chris L. Snyder of Bowling Green, OH.; one son, Kip E. Borland (Jessica) of Erie; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend Shirley Wolff of Girard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
