Richard Winston Obituary

Richard G. "Dick" Winston, 78, (the Plumber on Plum Street), died Sunday, January 17, 2021 at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Dick was born June 26, 1942 in Erie, a son to the late Richard L. Winston and Ruth Winston Leubke. He graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School, Girard, in 1960. Following high school he began work with his father at the company his grandfather began more than 100 years ago, the George Winston Company. He continued working there throughout his life, always being attentive and caring for his customers and their needs.

In his earlier years, Dick was a member of the Lake City Volunteer Fire Department. In addition, Dick was a member of Saint Johns Lutheran Church, Girard.  He sang in the choir and was a member of the church council. He was also a member of the Masonic Lake Erie Lodge #347, serving on the temple committee. He and his wife Karen enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, seeing every corner of the country, twice they drove to Alaska. They also enjoyed visiting long time friends, Bob and Irene Clark at his camp in Potter County.  Bob had made steady acquaintance with the bears in the area.  Dick and Karen loved the wild life surrounded by the peaceful setting in nature. One of Dick's favorite activities was Saturday night poker with his friends at the shop, then to be greeted at home by his beloved dog, "Pinkie".

Dick will be greatly missed by his wife, Karen (Kibler) Winston whom he married October 7, 1961;  two sisters, Diane Winston of Erie and Dale Rosenburg (Kevin) of East Springfield; his brother, David Winston (Laurel) of Erie; several nieces and nephews; as well as his family at the George Winston Company and a special appreciation for Betty Vollmer, his long time secretary. A special thank you to Tom Breckley, Diane Winston, John Haughwout, Jack Clark, Don Wagner and Rick Griffith for making it possible for Dick to continue his medical journey.
