Sondra 'Sandy' Fuller Obituary

Sondra (Sandy) F. Fuller, age 84, of Lake City, PA, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024 amidst the love and presence of her family. She was the daughter and first-born child of Frank E. Rodman and Pearl (Murray) Rodman of Long Beach, CA.  She was born in Oklahoma City, OK on December 18, 1939.

Sandy attended schools in Long Beach, CA from kindergarten through university having attended Garfield Elementary, Stephens Jr. High, Long Beach Polytechnic HS, and Long Beach State College (CA State University at Long Beach).  Sandy graduated from LBSC in 1962 and completed her student teaching and graduate courses in 1963 with a BA degree in Physical Education with a minor in English.  She qualified and received teaching certification with Special Secondary credentials in P.E. and Driver Education and Training.  She also received a teaching certificate for a General Secondary credential encompassing secondary courses.  In 1990, she received her Master's Degree from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA along with certification in Education Administration. Sandy was also a nationally rated volleyball referee and officiated at many high school and college games.

Following graduation from LBSC, Sandy accepted a Program Specialist position with the Department of the Army as a civilian employee with the Special Services Division.  Shortly after arriving for her assignment in France, Sandy was promoted to a Club Director position where she was responsible for the recreation program for off-duty military personnel on US Army bases.  During her 3-1/2 years in France, Sandy worked on military bases in Chalons-sur-Marne and Toul.  While in France, Sandy met and married the love of her life, her husband, Larry F. Fuller.  Their marriage brought much happiness and joy into each other's lives.  They have been married for nearly 60 years.

Upon return to the US, Sandy began her career in Education by accepting a teaching position at Magnolia High School for the Anaheim Unified School District where she was the Girls Athletic Director, a coach, and a PE teacher for 13 years.  Sandy was also privileged to work with her alma mater, LBSC, to train and supervise nine prospective teachers during their student teacher training.  Sandy transferred to Lake Elsinore Union High School District to work and enjoy a new home purchased on the golf course of Canyon Lake Country Club.  Sandy held a variety of positions during the remaining 17+ years of her career.  Her abilities were used at length as she not only participated in programs but also used her acquired administrative degree.  Sandy served and chaired many educational committees.  At various times she was a mentor teacher, taught Social Studies and Math, was a member of the teacher negotiating team, Superintendent's Council, District Curriculum Committee, and Staff Development Coordinator.  Sandy was Co-Chairperson of the CA State Accreditation team at Elsinore High School.  Sandy was selected as teacher of the year on two separate occasions for EHS and also was selected as teacher of the year for the entire Lake Elsinore School District.  The Yearbook was dedicated to Sandy by the student body.  Sandy also served as interim assistant principal and/or principal when needed. In the last few years of her career, Sandy was the driving force behind the development of the school district's Home Education Program.

Sandy loved to golf and travel.  She and her husband traveled the US by RVing/camping and by traveling on land, air and sea.  All 50 United States were visited via land, air, and sea. Travel to other countries included Canada, Holland, Germany, Luxembourg, Italy, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Caribbean Islands, Costa Rica, Panama, and others. Sandy was very fortunate to have two "Hole-in-Ones".  The first was made at Canyon Lake County Club in CA and the second was a Girard's Over Lake Golf Course, 30 years apart.  During her lifetime Sandy and her husband were fortunate to belong and to live at three golfing communities.  Sandy was the Ladies Club Champion at each of the courses.

Aside from her personal achievements, those closest to Sandy understood just how remarkable she was as a person - her generosity of time, love, and resources knew no bounds.  Sandy was a champion for others, seeing the best in each person she knew, and endlessly selfless in her consideration of others.  She was disciplined, adventurous, witty, gentle, intelligent, straightforward, humble, strong…and so VERY much more.

In addition to her parents, Frank E. and Pearl M. Rodman, Sandy is also proceeded in death by her loving husband, Larry F. Fuller, who was the absolute light of her life; her brothers, Frank Rodman, Jr., Long Beach CA, and Roger Rodman, Largo, FL; brother-in-law, James Fuller (Becky) of Weslaco, TX; and nephew, Michael Linder of Long Beach, CA.

Sandy will be deeply missed and forever remembered by family and friends including: sister Linda J. Linder of Anaheim, CA.; brother-in-law, Dana Fuller; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Bible, Marilyn Fuller-Smith (Peter), Elaine Hemstreet (Alan), and Rosemarie Werling (Charles); many nieces, nephews, some of whom lovingly assisted with her care; grandnieces, grandnephews, cherished neighboring families; especially dear friends Carol Johnson and Susan Braun; and adored friends, colleagues, and acquaintances throughout this country.
